Offering both Medical and Detox/General Wellness Lymphatic Drainage!

Medical Lymphatic Drainage (Book with Yvonne Only): We offer a medical lymphatic drainage approach through Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) - a combination of Lymphatic Drainage Massage, remedial exercise therapy, compression bandaging (or compression garments in the maintenance phase) and therapeutic skin care. Integrated Lymph Drainage cleanses the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system, decreases pain and enhances the functioning of the parasympathetic nervous system. It thereby facilitates the healing of injuries, chronic conditions, inflammations and edemas.

Detox & General Wellness Lymphatic Drainage (Book with Yvonne or Olivia): A perfect introduction to Lymphatic Drainage Massage for individuals who are looking to try this treatment approach for the first time. It moves fluid throughout the body moving toxins to the liver and kidneys where they can be filtered out. Mobilizing the immune system and increasing general health and wellbeing. Also ideal for individuals who have generalized mild swelling and swelling due to pregnancy. The treatment is generally conducted laying on the back and starts with a full body dry brush and then lymphatic techniques to the neck, armpits, abdomen and legs. If additional focus is wanted to the face and arms, the legs can be omitted.

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Energy (qi) flows through the entire body along pathways we call meridians. This energy can become blocked or stagnant, causing imbalances and thus giving rise to pain, disharmonies and illnesses.

Acupuncture stimulates specific acupoints along these meridians, restoring the smooth flow of blood/fluids and energy, bringing the body back to balance. These points are where a large number of nerves, muscles and connective tissue can be stimulated. This increases blood flow to the area, improving circulation and encourages the release of natural biochemicals such as endorphins and other neurotransmitters that reduce pain, stress, etc.

Areas of Expertise: TMJ, Musculoskeletal: all body parts, education/ injury-coach, manual therapy, home training programs for recovery, taping, cupping, acupuncture

Vestibular Rehab: Dizziness, BPPV, Concussion

Treating ages 10 & up.

Margaret has been a Physio a long time! She graduated from the University of Western Ontario, and has worked in hospitals, home care and private clinics, completing exams for Acupuncture in 1996. She will share her experience and education with you to find out where to start on your recovery from injury.

People are often surprised at how their assessment on the first day is really an exploration. The first step is to listen to your history. Often people can provide very specific information to guide the assessment. Then because it’s always safety first, we check for dangerous issues, red flags. For muscle and joint pain, next we are looking to see where you are most sensitive, and how careful we need to be: This is where we look at how well the nerves are working and moving. We always hope these are fine! The spine movement and function are next. Often, limb pain can be coming from the spine, so we look there first. From there, if all is well, we move to the limbs. I look at joint movement and the most common problems related to a particular joint. For example, with shoulder pain, can you reach behind your back? With hip pain, can you squat? For concussions, and dizziness, the assessment includes many of these elements but also tests of balance, vision, inner ear function, tests of exertion and cardiovascular function, and motion sensitivity tests.

What we are hoping is to find something we can help you with!! So you may be surprised when I am happy when you “fail” one of our tests! We know how to help you with that problem. The first day you will leave with exercises, and a start on learning new resting strategies, posture and breathing tips, when to use heat and cold etc.. Another thing we want on the first day is to find your baseline: get data on our starting point. Then we can compare over the following sessions to see your progress: it’s not just how you are feeling, it’s also how you are healing! Better results for tests of strength, flexibility, balance show us we are on the right track. Margaret enjoys working with people as we get on the right track together. When not working, she enjoys playing guitar, walking on trails, reading, spending time with family, and volunteering at Indwell.
